3D modelling is the process of creating objects in a three-dimensional space using software.
Unlike 2D design (flat images), 3D models have:
- Width (X axis)
- Height (Y axis)
- Depth (Z axis)
This allows objects to look realistic from all angles.
Types of 3D Models
- Polygonal Models
- Built using vertices, edges, and faces
- Most common (used in games, animation)
2. NURBS Models
- Smooth surfaces (used in engineering)
3. Sculpted Models
- Organic shapes (characters, creatures)
For this course, we focus on polygonal modelling.
Real-World Applications
- Architecture (buildings, interiors)
- Product design (phones, furniture)
- Gaming (characters, environments)
- Film & animation
Key Insight
3D modelling is not about software.
It is about understanding shape, structure, and space.
